Alberta is a bird hunter’s paradise, offering abundant waterfowl with liberal bird limits.
Alberta’s waterfowl hunting is exceptional, as Alberta is a major fall staging area for Canada Geese, Specklebelly Geese, and Snow Geese, as well as Mallard and Pintail Ducks. Early in the season, this area is blessed with strong local populations of huge Honkers. As the season progresses large numbers of Specklebelly Geese and Snow Geese move through the area. We hunt the geese from stand up and lay down blinds in the many grain fields. Alberta’s daily limit includes up to 8 dark geese (5 of which can be Specklebelly geese), 8 ducks and 50 Snow geese. These awesome limits make our hunts great fun! Double D Outfitters is located in the heart of the “Duck Factory” with the highest densities of breeding ducks on the North American continent. We have great duck shooting right from September 8th, our opening day, through to the end of October. We typically shoot ducks while they are coming to feed in the grain fields or while they are landing on the small ponds, where they water before feeding. It is not uncommon to have 50 to 100 ducks working into the decoys at one time. Hundreds of lakes and ‘potholes’ surround our hunting area, as well as fields of barley, wheat, and peas. This landscape allows Double D Outfitter the opportunity to provide our hunters with the waterfowl experience of a lifetime. The key to our success is that we have local experienced guides and spotters, who maintain good relationships with the local farmers and farming community. We spot every night and morning, so you are guaranteed a great hunting experience. Our staff have worked together, as a team, for over 10 years.
A TYPICAL HUNTING DAY
A typical hunting day includes waking early, having a light breakfast, grabbing a muffin to enjoy while in the field, then heading off for the morning hunt. After a morning in the field, we head back to the lodge for a full breakfast by Chef Barb . Barb has been camp Chef for over
20 years and knows how to create meal masterpieces. After our second breakfast, guests can relax during the midday until time to depart for the evening hunt. Upon return from the evening hunt, Chef Barb will have a sumptuous, homemade supper, complete with dessert, waiting for us. The fall season in central Alberta can vary from very cold to very pleasant. Having a range of warm and cold weather camo gear is essential. This should include pants, jacket, long underwear, hat, gloves and boots. Chest waders are also a good idea, but it is suggested that lightweight waders or breathable waders be used as they take up less space in your baggage. Remember your sun glasses, camera, extra digital memory, cooler etc. We will only be offering one group of hunters per week, as to make sure our clients have an experience of a lifetime,
